Mankayane – In an effort to mitigate unemployment and improve livelihoods in Mankayane, the women residing in and around the town have endeavoured on a cooperative mission to recycle food waste and produce organic compost.

The women cooperative facilitated by the Board is now fully registered under the name, ‘Mankayane Multi-Purpose – Cooperative Limited Society. After long strides in implementing the project, the Bokashi organic compost is now ready to be consumed by farmers. As means to educate consumers on the use of the compost, the cooperative last week conducted a demonstration following all the steps or guidelines as attached on their product. This initiative will not only provide knowledge in terms of usage but will also prove how effective the organic compost is for farmers.

All stakeholders interested in knowing more or purchasing the Bokashi organic compost may contact the MTB AMICAALL Manager at 7612 0979.

The cooperative women were hard at work planting vegetable seedlings while also demonstrating how to use the Bokashi organic compost they are selling.
The end product of how the planting process or outcome should look like.
