  • Commemoration of National Disability Sports and Wellness Day 2023

Mankayane – On Friday the 8th of December 2023 the Board joined the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Members of Parliament and other partners in commemorating National Disability Sports & Wellness Day at the Somhlolo National stadium. The theme of the event was to, ‘Let Parliament Lead in Ending AIDS & Gender Based Violence.’

Mankayane Town Board is committed in creating an environment where every individual, regardless of their abilities, feels accommodated as the town continues to develop. This year’s theme as hosted by the Government of Eswatini also incorporated the urgent need not just for Government, but for every individual to play a role in the fight against AIDS in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The national event was launched with a short march from the Parliament of Eswatini to the Somhlolo National stadium led by a band from the Eswatini Royal Eswatini Police. Participants in this march carried banners that promoted a clear message towards breaking barriers and facilitating inclusivity.

Various sporting codes including aerobics, yoga, tug of war/big foot took place to promote wellness and healthy habits. A game between Parliamentarians and Local Government officials ensued to conclude the celebration. Shortly before the finale, His Excellency the Right Honourable Prime Minister Russell Dlamini and his dignitaries visited the Mankayane Town Board’s stall amongst others, where they were welcomed by the Board Chairman, Councillor Thembi Mabeleza.

The Chairman unpacked the vision and projects that the Board has to the PM, emphasising the urgent need for Government (through the Ministry of Housing & Urban Development) to release land that is under Government as well as other applications that are aimed towards the development of Mankayane. This was discussed while the PM went through the draft of the Town Planning Scheme that is currently at the Ministry for approval.
