AMICAALL – an acronym to the Alliance of Mayors Initiative for Community Action on AIDS at the Local level advocates for multi-sectoral community involvement and action at local level and further promote social and behavioural change by informing and educating all key target groups through creative events and activities.
Youth mentorship
The Board offers annual youth empowerment trainings as an effort to reduce poverty, these are conducted in collaboration with National Stakeholders, the local youth is currently working on making themselves a formal structure (registered entity). The Department offers Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights sessions to in school youth, adolescents during their class hours.
Workplace Programs
Promote workplace health and wellness programs, assisting with facilitation of related information sessions.
Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT)
Helps families to prevent HIV transmission from parents to children, improve maternal health and reduce mortality among women and children.
Condom Promotion and Distribution
As means to curb the spread of HIH/AIDS and unplanned pregnancies in Mankayane Town and local areas, Mankayane Town Board through this office continues to provide free condoms at over 15 local outlets accessible by all individuals within the urban boundaries.
Home Based Care
Provide care and support to the chronically ill, and their families at home. This program is facilitated local volunteers who conduct door to door visits to local terminally ill residents.
Social Centres
Mankayane Town Board plays a pivotal role towards supporting vulnerable groups in the town. Currently the Board supports 3 social centres that manage the aforementioned groups at individual up to family level. These centres are located at Mangwaneni, Mabovini as well as at the Town centre.
Role of MTB Social Centres
- These Centres offer feeding program to local children age 0 – 16 years.
- The town Centre also offers an Early Childhood Development Education program, 3 – 5 years.
- We also offer growth Monitoring and vaccination points for the neighbouring Community, in case of National outbreaks in collaboration with the Mankayane Public Health Unit.
- 11 unpaid volunteers/caregivers provide the cooking services for the social Centre beneficiaries. Currently food support is received from the Adventist Relief Agency, donations are always welcome.
Early Childhood Development Care Education (ECDCE)
This program has enrolled 35 (13 boys & 22 Girls) with basic preschool education, their syllabus is sourced from the Ministry of Education Manzini Region. This service is fully supported by the Board for the underprivileged children.
Community conversations and capacity Enhancement
The forum creates a participatory, planning and sensitisation of communities on key HIV related issues, promoting knowledge, addressing attitudes and values, and facilitating community decision making and actions.
